About Gregg Lerman

Gregg Lerman has been a member of the Florida Bar for nearly 40 years, beginning his law career in 1985. Gregg has worked primarily as a criminal defense attorney for the last several decades, and is known for his strong work ethic, resourcefulness, and advocacy. His long career in Palm Beach County has provided a thorough understanding of the Office of State Attorney in Palm Beach County’s 15th Circuit, where Gregg conducts daily business; he has strong working relationships with its prosecutors and staff in all of its departments.

Board Certified as a Criminal Trial Lawyer, Florida Bar since 1999, he is a member of the Florida Bar, as well the Bars of the U.S District Court Middle District of Florida, the U.S. District Court Southern District of Florida, the Western District of Oklahoma, the U.S. Court of Appeals 11th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Gregg is a founding member and past president of The Palm Beach Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, as well as a founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He enjoys sharing his knowledge of criminal law with his associates and future attorneys, as he does as a lecturer and author of articles that have appeared in a variety of legal publications. Gregg is a former adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern School of Law. Gregg is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Bar Association.

In 2016, Gregg ran for Circuit Court Judge in Palm Beach County, narrowly losing the race to his opponent. His opponent was later disqualified from the practice of law and removed from the bench due to irresponsible campaign messaging in violation of judicial ethics and canon during the election campaign. Prior to running that campaign, Gregg Lerman successfully sued Governor Rick Scott for attempting to make an illegal appointment to the open seat. A Florida court agreed with Gregg that the appointment was a constitutional violation, resulting in the seat becoming available for the 2016 election cycle.

Born in Queens, NY, the Lerman family moved to Florida from Stony Brook, Long Island when Gregg was a teenager. The older of three siblings, he attended Piper High School in Sunrise. Greg went on to the University of Florida in 1978, where he was active in Student Government, the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, and the Florida Blue Key.

He graduated and was admitted to Nova School of Law in 1982 (known now as Nova Southeastern School of Law).

Gregg has been married to Debra Stark Lerman since 1985; they have two children, two grandchildren and a large extended family here in Palm Beach County. Gregg’s hobbies include painting and sketching, gardening, cooking, fishing, and cycling. He is a collector of wine and enjoys playing Mah Jong with friends and family and Chutes and Ladder with his 5-year-old grandson. Gregg is a loyal longtime Florida Marlins, Heat and Panther fan, and of course a Big Gator Fan. He also collects golf balls that PGA National golfers often hit into his backyard and pool.
